President Rodrigo Duterte would not hesitate in joining a "new order" organized by China and Russia.

In a pre-departure briefing in Davao City on Thursday, Duterte said that he would leave the United Nations (UN) if China and Russia form a new group of nations.

"If China and Russia would decide to create a new order, I will be the first to join. I will be the first to join. Alis ako diyan sa... there used to be a League of Nations before. It was in Hague something. Itong predecessor ng United Nations, it used to be called League of Nations. Nothing happened. There is still war. United Nations, walang nagawa. Series of war ... Vietnam, Taliban, ngayon dito," he said.

This was not the first time Duterte threatened to leave the UN.

In August, Duterte said he would separate from the "inutile" UN amid criticisms against his war on drugs amid rising death toll of drug-related suspects.

Duterte on Tuesday night said he had requested for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Lima, Peru. —KG/RSJ, GMA News
