Focused crime rate has decreased by more than 50% since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office in July last year, the Philippine National Police reported.

PNP Directorate for Investigative and Detective Management (DIDM) head Police Director Augusto Marquez presented the data on Monday amid claims that extrajucdicial killings have risen to 7,000 under Duterte's war on drugs.

According to PNP's tally, there were 158,879 instances of "focused crimes", a category that includes murder, homicide, robbery, theft, carnapping, and physical injuries, from July 1, 2015 until June 30, 2016 during former President Noynoy Aquino's term.

But when Duterte entered Malacañang, the number of focused crimes dropped to 78,941 for the same period - a difference of 79,938 or 50.31 percent.

“Napakalaki ng reduction sa carnapping, theft at robbery. May naririnig ba kayo na carnapping na very violent ngayon? Samantalang noon halos araw araw nasa TV on primetime news. Ngayon, wala na kayong nakikita o naririnig,” Marquez explained.

The most notable decrease was in the cases of theft. From 66,542, the number dipped to 27,535. Robbery incidents also went down from 27,288 to 12,364 while carnapping incidents also decreased from 12,095 to 4,753 during the same period.
