Philippine National Police Director General Chief Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosaordered the promotion of Police Security and Protection Group PO2 Joselito Andare Lantano.
Also known as the “Bus Hero”, he is the policeman responsible for singlehandedly stopping a bus robbery along EDSA in its tracks.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said that the investigation shows the perpetrator fired his gun at the passengers.
Off-duty PO2 Lantano then announced himself as a police officer, prompting the man to quickly shoot at the officer. The “Bus Hero” fired back and killed the suspect.
After clearing the bus and taking it to a patrol mobile, they caught the gunman's alleged cohorts. The two were identified as Mark Lee Hinay (27) and James Medrona (32). The officers in patrol confiscated one caliber .38 revolver and one fan knife from them.
The two denied the allegations leveled at them and said that they were not working with the gunman.
PO2 Lantano is definitely not short on bravery as reports say he was a recruit of the PNP-Special Action Force in 1997.
PNP Chief 'Bato' said that the PO2 Lantano's courage and bravery are worthy of emulation by all members of the police force.
Most netizens gave their support for the “Bus Hero”, although there are people who pointed out that the Commission of Human Rights would have something different to say about the matter.
